Johanna Techt suffers vertebral fracture

La giovane medaglia di bronzo agli europei 2011 XCO Juniores, Johanna Techt, ha avuto un incidente banale con lo slittino nel corso della giornata di Sabato ed ha subito una frattura vertebrale. Ha passato la giornata in ospedale e ha subito un intervento chirurgico. Si parla di "schiacciamento della decima vertebra toracica". I medici sono fiduciosi che potrà rimettersi presto ma non è il miglior modo per iniziare la stagione olimpica.
L'incidente è avvenuto nel pomeriggio di Sabato presso il confine austro-tedesco. Johanna Techt stava festeggiando il suo 19esimo compleanno con alcuni amici. Durante una desciesa con la slitta ha preso un un canale di scolo che attraversava strada ed è caduta.
"Per fortuna quei pochi volontari che erano presenti si sono comportati in modo appropriato altrimenti si sarebbero rischiati seri danni alla colonna vertebrale", ha riferito Manfred Techt, padre di Johanna. Johanna Techt è uno dei più grandi giovani talenti della tedesca cross-country in mountain bike. Terza agli europei 2010 e 2011 XCO e quinta ai mondiali di Champery sempre nel 2011.

Junior European Championship bronze medalist Johanna Techt had a sledding accident on Saturday and suffered a vertebral fracture. Her father Manfred Techt speaks of "crush fracture of tenth thoracic vertebra." Therefore, she had to undergone surgery. Nothing is certain at this point, but the doctors are confident that everything will be alright.
The accident happened on Saturday afternoon at the German-Austrian border. Johanna Techt was celebrating her 19th Birthday with a few friends. Sitting on the sledge, she went over a gutter that ran across the toboggan and fell.
“Fortunately, there were few knowledgeable volunteers there and have dealt with it properly. I'd like to send my sincere thanks to all of them. This could have caused major damage to the spine,” said Manfred Techt.
Johanna Techt is one of the biggest young talents in the German cross-country mountain biking. She was third in the Junior European Championships in 2010 and 2011. In 2011 she also taked 5th place in world championship.
